Could you clarify, a nominee is submitted by the club to the county through the proper process, what confirmation is issued by the county back to the club confirming receipt of this?

I have no definite answer but the majority if not all nomination forms are returned by email and there is an electronic record of delivery and those receiving

Who is the County's Children's Officer? Do members within clubs know who the Children's Officer is? I suspect it is low on the priority list and it shouldn't be. The safeguarding procedures are applied more stringently in other child centred groups/ organisations. And doesn't definition of child include up to aged 18. Suggest that this is an area worthy of consideration.

The County Children's Officer is Barney Herron. I would contest that Child Wellfare is not stringently applied

I think it is great that we will have people running for multiple positions at this years convention. For far too long people went into these positions of power unopposed and effectively without a mandate. Good luck to all those who put their names forward and hopefully our county is the winner. Speaking to our club secretary earlier and he thinks there is really two groups.....the existing people and the new people and both want to retain divisional boards. It would be good to have a combination of experience and new thinking. Good luck!

How many delegates per club are permitted to go? Are they delegated to go and vote in accordance with wishes of club or can how they vote be at their own discretion? Is there likely to be open engagement by nominees with clubs between closing of nominations and election day? This sort of engagement would be healthy. Players work very hard to be selected on teams and they do so voluntary. Officials who represent us should likewise be motivated and be seen to have a clear vision of what they want to achieve. And like everyone else they do it because they want to do it- voluntary. And with the correct leadership there will literally be hundreds even thousands of Antrim GAA willing to put their shoulder to the wheel. We are where we are not where we wish to be.

3 delegates per club. It is normal that club delegates are mandated by their club to vote in a particular way. There are times when a club may decide that the delegates can listen to the argument made at the meeting and then decide on how to vote.

It has not been custom and practise in the past for a Question Time type debate to take place between nominees.

Fixture Vision

27th October 2015

I have read the letter sent by Terry Reilly from the Saffron Vision group. I know of some of the group but not others but that is not my concern. In the letter it talks about fixtures covering all age groups throughout the county. At the minute the Divisional Boards look after fixtures at under 12 and under 14, senior competitions and South West and South Antrim organise the football at under16. Does this group plan to organise these games also? If they do what happens to the Divisional Boards? Is part of their change to do away with the divisional board fixtures? My club who play hurling and football at all age groups would struggle to play at all county level at the younger age groups. Change can be good sometimes but not change for change sake. Has any of this group spoken to the Divisional Board? Maybe they have as ‘Baldrick’ says a cunning plan but I can’t see it working.

I don’t and wont assume to know the plan of the group nor comment on it. I only know what I read in the group’s letter. Divisional Boards are an integral part of this county and serve their clubs well not only through fixtures but in governance and leadership. The clubs will have the final say on the structure of fixtures within the county and CCC will carry out the will of County Committee.

Welfare

27th October 2015

I would like to see those in the frame for County selection to address the substance and alcohol abuse which is endemic in some of our communities . Also the level of verbal abuse still by some adult members evident at GAA youth games both traing and in competitive games is a flagrant violation of child safeguading practice. There is a duty of care right throughout the GAA to see that good practice is translated from paper policy into applied practice.

  • It is the responsibility of all to ensure that Child Wellfare is paramount. I know our Children's Officer has been kept busy this past year with incidents at club level and he is also very active at provincial and national level. Unseen work.

Monday 7th December. Club delegates attend.

Camogie

27th October 2015

Watched Ulster Camogie final on Sunday and it was a real spectacle of skill. What I felt contributed to the game was the performance of the referee. She I assumed refeered it as a Camogie game whilst some of the camogie games I witness are refeered like hurling where much less edifying 'stuff' is allowed. On Sunday the skills of these girls were nothing short of brilliant and were permitted to showcase these by the performance of ref.

Nominations

27th October 2015

In relation to nominations- the individual informs club committee of which he /she is member of position that he / she is seeking at whatever level and that the Club Committee duly sanction or otherwise? Each member presumably needs to go through the same proper procedure to ensure validity? So self nomination without due process recorded through club would not be proper?

Is there a group or a number of individuals looking for positions at County, Ulster and wherever else - that they see themselves wishing to attain? Is this the normal procedure and process? Was thinking of consulting with my PR team to think where I might fit into the jig saw? All this group are on the same ticket; working to the same ends? Have many of them erarned their stripes at County level? I don't know and others don't know but they will answer this as they are prepared to deal with everyones questions and concerns.

The normal democratic process that exists within the GAA is that it is an individual who is nominated by a club.

Clubs will be in a better position after next Monday when nominations close and a full list of candidates will be known and judgements can be made on records etc.

Elections should be seen as healthy and ultimately it will be the Antrim clubs that decide on the best way forward for Antrim after they undoubtedly consider the merits of each individual that is put forward.

I have no doubt that any of those individuals who are nominated would be open to discuss their hopes and aspirations for Antrim Development Squads, Dunsilly, Casement, fixtures, culture, promotion and governance.

Is that true that Davy Fitz - that he might be stepping up to take Antrim minor hurlers next year? Hope he enjoyed the Mageean final yesterday evening.

Just wondering if the county are any closer to appointing a new hurling manager? I understand that the interviewing committee will be looking to ensure they have make the best possible appointment and appreciate that this is not an easy task. However it would be nice to get a man in place sooner rather than later to start planning for our return to division 1 hurling, especially considering that the team can start back training next month.

Process is ongoing and it is anticipated that a person will be in place to enable training to start.
