Apologies maybe I should have refined my post to say Saturday afternoons where not part of the GAA calendar, hence the issue arising over other sports and peoples work commitments. I also understand the fixtures have been put in place and this is a task in itself but were you clash with other significant fixtures its unfair in one club having both in one day and not in convenient locations to support both. Just another point there not a day in the week that im not making a difference so appreciate a fellow gaels valid comments. Lets move forward together!

Just a quick response to Gael, C'ship games have been played over full weekend's in Antrim ie Fri Sat and Sun for as long as i can remember, this is also true in all other counties in Ulster, i know this because i have been attending such C'ship games in Ulster for more than 30 years. Secondly the Championship Dates have been on the Antrim Fixtures schedule since they were released round the end of March. the amount of work that goes into setting up the fixtures clearly goes over the head of "Gael", but i can assure him or her that some bloke just off the street, didnt walked into the County Office and decided to fix their Club's Fixture at the most alkward time. If you think you could do better then get off your behind and get involved,,,,,,,,,you know the old saying " Many Hands Make Light Work,

Firstly can I ask why the Antrim GAA has changed the traditional day from Sunday to Saturday for senior games, growing up playing both codes at senior level I never played a Saturday championship match but now it's seen as a given which may I also add differs from our neighbouring counties. Saturday we do compete with other codes but more challenging it's seen as the normal working week for some people..... Next point is one that could have been avoided woth some forward thinking, my club is involved in a senior Martin cup final before our seniors take to the field at a location which has given our club supporters a decision to make, i.e choose one or the other. This is a very unfortunate situation which I believe was given no thought or planning to ensure my club was able to support both games as a club which within their own right are significant games of the year. I thought we were moving forward, are we?

Championship weekends run from Friday to Sunday.

It is unfortunate that your club has to play in the Martin cup final and championship on the same day.

Success and hard work?

12th August 2016

Sambo was talking in West Belfast about the hard work behind the success of clubs like Cushendall, Dunloy and Loughgiel. Maybe it's not that 'hard' when you and your club have been successful? Even one winning championship side in the past 20 years will have say 25 players within that club with medals and recognised as a great team. No success, no medals, no Cups, no silverware ( of significance) in 20, 40 years or ever and keeping going - well could that be called 'hard'? So to those hard working ( successful) clubs that Sambo mentioned maybe you don't really know the meaning of hard work ? Hard is when it is a struggle. 'Hard' when nothing of significance is being won; has been won or in foreseeable future likely to be won. Those clubs and those within them starved of success - (the majority in Antrim ) maybe have a different concept of what 'hard' really means? 'Hard' is the experience of being perennial losers because we all wish to be winners . 'Hard' is being on the wrong end over many years of hammerings , trouncings meted out by strong clubs in juvenile competitions . 'Hard' on the young players, hard on the coaches, hard on parents, hard on those in non successful clubs who care... hard going, hard to take. Harder in that it contributes to self inflicted killing off of our games - by ourselves. It is more than 'hard' - it is painful, full of pain to literally see us being the architects of our own destruction. It is those stalwarts who pre- dated the successful era in the likes of Cushendall and Dunloy clubs who worked when it was hard - year in / year out without much to show for it? Maybe hard work and success / successful in the past 25 years extends beyond the 3 North Antrim clubs and before the modern era of their success? But then our world loves 'the winner'?

A lot of hard effort went into this post . It is "hard" to see any positives in it. I think your being too hard on yourself.

Great to see the growing levels of participation in Cul Camps. In Divisional areas there are literally hundreds involved. This weekend the North Antrim Festival of Hurling will be a great showcase. However those that be will have selected squads whom they perceived worthy of School of Excellence participation to participate against club sides. That process of selectivity at such an age should be changed? Every child deserves better?

Saturday matches

28th July 2016

It's got nothing to do with other sports!, has the fixture panel any idea of the amount of people who work on a Saturday afternoon!? Plus, making teams travel long distances mid week is just plain daft.

Copied this from another GAA guestbook. Think this is hitting the nail on the head. "Coaching standards and drive for better standards varies massively between clubs and even between agegroups within clubs. Not enough of a coaching population with the right skillsets to stop bad habits/mannerisms developing and bring as many youngsters through to WANT to play senior for their club."

Feel our emphasis in selecting players and their exposure to whatever is programmed within development squads is flawed. It is selective based on perceived competence at a certain age. It is working with a selected, selective pool where a hierarchy of perceiived excellence is developed. We are excluding too many who for whatever reason may not catch the eye or at a certain age may not have the family support to 'push' them forward? Give players from clusters of clubs exposure to good coaches- so that the rising tide raises the standard among a greater number of players. The system that we currently operate is elitist and sure producing little other than the perennial expectation that we have a good team this year and always a better one next year! We need to objectively look at where we are and how we might improve? The two games against Meath maybe will be a blessing in that they bring realism to players and others.
