Will there be information shared regarding the nominations for Antrim hurling manager?

It is normal that once those nominated have accepted their nomination the names are released.

There's more to success than dreaming about it - get a manager ; get a sponsor or two and then sit back and leave them to it. Not saying this is happening everywhere but it happens in some places. Too much hope and too much responsibility vested in too few - maybe we are trying to mimic the professional management set ups in other non amateur sports.

You start with a dream then plan how you can achieve that dream then work hard to fulfill that dream. You are right that it is usual that to fulfill a dream it needs buy in from many and most importantly willingness to work.

In the event of two team sitting in first place at the end of the league on the same number of points, is the winner determined on score difference? Or on the two matches between those two teams earlier in the league?

In the case of only two teams on equal points it is firstly determined in the result of the games between the two teams. If more than two teams score difference is used.

Equally dissapointed

4th September 2015

And whilst 'astonished' voices his dissapointment at County level - equally that same dissapointment and astonishment could be pointed to clubs where 'reward' to purchase or to be offered to purchase a ticket for those taking teams is not considered. There are those who put in the time - years in and years out and are taken for granted. A little bit of recognition is important at all levels in our Association.

I agree that volunteer work should be rewarded. I can't comment on individual clubs but there is not an infinite amount of tickets.

A view at the fixtures section shows that Antrim senior hurling and football leagues last potentially over 7 months. Considering pre-season and potential fixture delays, players are committing to effectively 9/10 months. I know Joe Brolly has suggested that such a long season may impact on players' physical and mental fatigue. I was wondering if there are any models from other counties that the Antrim CCC could avail of in an attempt to reform ours? Or has this issue been addressed before? Thanks, Peter

It would be very difficult to reduce the time considering that club football and hurling league and championship plus county football and hurling league and championship games have to be factored in when planning the fixtures not to mention Divisionsl Board fixtures such as Feis.

Improving standards

2nd September 2015

This is a post from another site about improving standards in sport and from the other side of the world but to me it seemed worthy of posting here... One solution Regional development Schools (for all player standards, not just elite) I'm now living in the US, my son plays the ground ball. New York Red Bulls have set up a structure where the have about 20 RDS operating in the NJ area. The kids go, are placed according to ability, and then go through a 12 week development program. This actually helps the local clubs, (e.g a number of your team goes to a RDS, where they receive superior technical training along with kids of other local clubs) I believe that one way to improve the standard of hurling across clubs is to set this kind of development structure, so instead of county development teams, we should set up a club development program focusing on player development of both county and non county standard hurlers, develop everybody, give all clubs the opportunity to participate and within ten years, the standard should improve ,

I'd just like to congratulate both Intermediate teams last Sunday in Dunloy for a thrilling contest. These games can often be ignored due to the interest in the Senior championships. For anyone who was there, it was a great demonstration of skill, determination and passion from both teams and it was cruel that one team had to lose. Hurling was the real winner. I'm sure Gort na Mona will be devastated by the result after leading for so long in the game. Creggan will be ecstatic that they managed to pull of the win. The standard was really high and both clubs should be congratulated. The game was brilliant.

There are suggestions that are posted and positively commented on by moderator that if implemented or tried could help the presentation of our games.

Minor ++

1st September 2015

Yes it would be good to provide big occasion for minor finals. Over the years the exposure afforded to minor games has been minimal. Was told they used to play minor games before senior games as opposed to reserve. But I may be wrong in this?

  1. In the past u16 games in hurling were played before senior league games. Senior championship finals had the minor finals before. When we had Casement we had Double headers Football and Hurling under lights. Minor finals usually not with senior now as clubs have minors on their senior panels. Minors deserve proper exposure and that needs improved.
Minor B Hurling Supporter

1st September 2015

So the county fixes the minor b hurling date for the 11th - 13th , players/managers & supporters arrange around this date then 5 days before the match the county changes the date - absolute joke - why couldn't this be played on the 11th or 12th as originally scheduled when all teams knew it was to be played. It surely could have been put before one of the senior hurling matches to give these young lads a chance of playing before a big game. I wonder why it was changed when none of these teams are involved in any other hurling matches. Absolutely disgusted at the short notice and this decision if this was at senior level this would not have happened

The weekend of the 11th September was the date that it was hoped that the Minor B hurling final could be played along with the A& B minor football finals. Creggan, a dual club, are playing in the minor A football final that weekend. The following weekend Creggan play in the Intermediate hurling final. They have minor players on their senior team. The next available weekend is the date set for the minor B hurling final.

Plenty of Clubs would love to be in Creggan's position of playing three county finals in three weeks with the possibility of a senior football semi final added to the mix.

There are underage finals fixed for both the senior football and hurling finals. The county u16 finals will be played.
