Local GAA Clubs Inspired at the Gaelfast Support For Sport Funding Workshop
Antrim GAA, in collaboration with Belfast City Council and St Mary’s University College, facilitated a Gaelfast Support for Sport Funding Workshop aimed at helping over local GAA clubs within the greater Belfast area to apply for and secure much needed financial resources for planned activities during 2019.
Following an introduction from the new Antrim County Board Chair, Ciarán McCavana, delegates took part in a facilitated workshop led by Antrim GAA Regeneration Director, Dr Paul Donnelly. The workshop started with a helpful presentation from two experienced Sports Development Officers from Belfast City Council, Janine Crawford and Lynne Wilson.
Janine and Lynne outlined details relating to the various funding streams available to sports clubs and community groups. They also were at hand to answer specific questions relating to delegates own ideas for developing their clubs.
In the final part of the workshop, CLG Naomh Pól Committee Member, Conor McCartan, shared his practical experience of securing regular funding from Belfast City Council over the last 10 years for a range of club specific projects such as the Community Summer Scheme, Ulster Minor Football Tournament. He was also available to take questions and give advice to others thinking following in his footsteps.
As a result of this workshop, Antrim GAA hope to see more GAA clubs applying to Belfast City Council for funding to help them develop and improve the opportunities that they provide to their members and local communities.
Thanks to Belfast City Council, CLG Naomh Pól for sharing their expertise with all delegates and to St Mary’s University College for kindly hosting and supporting the event.
