Inspiring
20th October 2016
2016 is a year of celebration for O’Donovan Rossa CLG in Belfast. This year marks 100 years of the club origins.
Throughout the year they have been celebrating our centenary year with a variety of different occasions including football, hurling, camogie matches, tournaments and the most recent, a mural representation of our players painted on their club wall.
As a part of their celebrations this year, O’Donovan Rossa will host a ‘Gaelic for Mothers and others tournament’ on the social 22nd October 2016.
This tournament will hopefully become an annual celebration named Spiorad an dóchais (Spirit of Hope).
The origins of the title of the tournament comes from the inspiration of one of Rossa’s current Senior Ladies footballers.
During this year, the Senior Ladies have come to light that one of the main Ladies footballers has been living through the aftermath of a tragic turn of events that happened over 4 years ago, in which her husband was subject to an accident and has recently had a leg amputation.
This woman is a strong, caring and giving woman and never expects anything in return. With 3 children, 2 of whom play for Rossa, she is constantly on the go and always working towards looking after the well-being of others.
This year- they want to give her something in return. The Spirit of Hope tournament and other plans that the ladies are continuously working on, will hopefully raise enough money to aid the value of a new wheelchair for her husband.
The goal at Rossa is to present this lady with the brand new Spiorad an dóchais award.
