Aldergrove's Big Breakfast 9 Years Later! They are Hungry!
23rd September 2016
From the early days in 2012 when Aldergrove decided to start girls football again after a break of nearly 9 years the learning curve has been very steep but ultimately the hard work has paid dividends.
Over that 4 year period the club has seen a boom in ladies football going from fielding 1 team at u16s to this year fielding at U10, U12, U16, Minor and Senior level. Through this 4 years they have seen the club work extremely hard to harness the potential and entice girls to join up through liaising with the local primary school, St Josephs PS and highlighting the club in the local community. The club have put a good coaching structure in place and this has allowed the girls to go from strength to strength.
From our 1st championship experience 4 years ago in Milltown being hammered by St Galls in the the 1st round to winning Div 3 League and Jnr B Championship last year at Senior ladies, the club have made massive progress with more to come.
The progress of the girls has been phenomenal in such a short space of time with 3 U14s, 6 U16s & 3 Minors representing Antrim this year we hope to have some representatives playing for the Seniors next year.
This year the Senior ladies have won the Jnr A Championship and are in the midst of preparing for the club's first ever campaign into Ulster when we play Coalisland in the 1/4 finals on Saturday 1st October at 2pm. This is quite an achievement in 4 years. With a Senior panel of 26 girls and 23 of them U18 this is a team for the future. Backed up by the brilliant U10 and U12 teams who have developed so well in the SW leagues this year, Aldergrove is certainly continuing on its steep learning curve.
The Ladies are running a big breakfast this Sat 24th Sep from 930am to 12 midday at £5 per breakfast at the clubhouse to help fund their quest for Ulster Glory. if anyone can drop by they will be made more than welcome.
