Aghagallon win Intermediate title to complete notable double
St Mary’s Aghagallon 1-13 Cuchullains Dunloy 1-8
A superb goal by young right-half back Eunan Walsh helped St Mary’s Aghagallon seal victory over Cuchullain’s Dunloy in Saturday’s hard fought Intermediate Football Championship final in Creggan.
St Mary’s had looked strong early in the game when backed by the breeze but Dunloy fought back well to trail by just four at the break and boosted by the introduction of minor stars Keelan Molloy and Conal Cunning they cut the deficit to single point midway through the second half.
However the Division 2 champions weathered the storm and began to edge clear again before Walsh’s goal sealed the victory. Dunloy did come back with a late goal of their own but it was too late to effect the result for the Cuchullains who suffered defeat in the final for the second year in a row.
