1 Minute with.................

Name: Brendan 'Reg' McComb

Club: Lámh Dhearg

Position: Football - Wing half back Hurling - Midfield

Favourite Pitch played on: Hannahstown and the old Casement Park ‪#‎buildcasement‬

If you could invite 3 people to dinner - Alive or dead. Who would you invite? 1. Ken McGrath (former Waterford Hurler and my favourite hurler when I was growing up). 2. Daniel O'Connell (I spent a lot of time studying O'Connell with my 'A' level classes in St. Mary's and I've a few things I'd like to clear up with him). 3. Paul 'Buchy' Buchanan (a true club legend and always easy company. My only concern is that me, Ken and Daniel might not get a word in edgeways).

Best Player you have played with: In our current football team I'd have to say Paddy Cunningham, although I did teach him how to shoot! Mickey Boyle also deserves a mention from when I first started playing senior football. In terms of Hurling I'd have to say Ciaran Herron for what he went on to achieve with Antrim.

Best Player you have played against: In hurling, Oclan 'Clute' McFetridge from Armoy. I was only 16 or 17 and playing my first year of senior hurling but the Antrim All-Star made a big impression on me. In football we played against Cookstown last year in a pre-season tournament and Eoin Mulligan was playing. Although when things got a bit heated he started asking us if we wanted 'a shot at the title!'. Think Nolies took his title from him in the end.

Best game you have been involved in: Intermediate hurling final win over Cloughmills 2011. My only county title to date.

Best game you have ever seen: 2008 All-Ireland football final when Tyrone beat Kerry. I was in Hill 16 and had a great view of Brian Dooher's wonder point when he picked the ball up in his own half, took on the Kerry defence and sliced it over with the outside of his boot. Superb score!

Best trainer within the squad: In football, Micko Herron, great motivator and example for younger squad members. Can't handle the 3G though with his dodgy knees! In hurling Conor 'Baby' McConville, trained so hard he needed an operation on his back! Loves it and is a really sensible fella...

Worst training drill: Going into any kind of 'pressure cooker' type drill still fills me with dread. Horrible things but the best way to recreate match intensity in training.

Favourite Song: Damien Dempsey 'The Colony'

Favourite Film: Teenwolf; 80's Classic and a childhood favourite.

Favourite Holiday Destination: The Amali Coast, Italy (got married in Sorrento)

Best advice ever received: An old coach once told me; 'if you always do what you always did, then you will always get what you always got'. Basically meaning you can always find ways of improving and you never stop learning.

Biggest influence on club career: Barry Armstrong almost single handedly turned Lámh Dhearg into a division 1 senior hurling club for a period. Taught my generation how to hurl.

Club Volunteer of note: Orla Fitzsimons does unbelievable work behind the scenes in terms of the daily administration of the club. Great role model for young girls within Lámh Dhearg

Biggest Strength in your game: Workrate and attitude. I would tell any young player that 'hard work beats talent, when talent doesn't work hard'.

Which club would you like to see do well apart from your own: A good friend of mine is from Clonoe O'Rahilly's, Tyrone, so I always look out for their results. In Antrim, I get on well with a few Rossa lads. So I like to see them do well.

Young Player within your club to look out for: Excellent young dual prospect is Ryan Diamond, who made a big impact for the hurlers this year and is showing really well for reserve footballers too.

Best thing about the GAA: For me it's not something you dip in and out of, once you are part of it, you belong and you share a common sense of identity and community with all its members.

In 10 years time your club will: Be successful in continuing to develop participation and talent in young people, and have more success at senior level than in our recent past
