1 minute with Antrim Ladies footballer Eleanor Mallon

2nd August 2016

Share:

Name: Eleanor Mallon

Club: St Ergnat's, Moneyglass

Favourite Position: l'm no use in defence, I don't have great feet for shooting and I don't like running... So I'm not sure how to answer this!

Hobbies: I don't have time for hobbies other than the odd half yin of brandy at the weekends! Camogie, Football & Crossfit take up most of my time!

Best Player you have played with: Jeepers, there's been a right few handy ones, maybe give this one to Clare Tims.

Toughest opponent: I didn't enjoy shadowing Dympna O'Brien in the league final... But most of my opponents are tough. If you go back and read my first answer again you'll see why!

Biggest joker within the team: I'd say Nicole Kelly from St Paul's wins this gong! Nothing is ever too inappropriate with her!

Any superstitions: Nope. Don't believe in that nonsense. If someone told me not to 'split the pole' I most certainly will split the pole!

Favourite Song: Simon & Garfunkel - Sound of silence and Boyzone - Melting pot!! What an underrated tune!

Favourite Movie: Disney's Robin Hood. Who knew a cartoon fox would be hotter than Kevin Costner?!

Favourite Holiday Destination: Recently visited Vegas. It's a nice relaxing place...

Favourite Meal: Breakfast! After early morning Crossfit classes, Me and my bro make the best feeds with fresh eggs from the garden

Favourite sports person: Usain Bolt has everything! Speed, power and stacks of craic.

Best advice ever received: Big Sean from the Hatfield once told me, "if you don't go home now, you'll regret it!" Great advice in hindsight.

Biggest influence on your career: I'd say my school, St Mary's, Magherafelt was the biggest influence. There was such a strong sporting history and on the pitch, there was a huge work & team ethic drilled into us.

Area of your game you would like to improve: Shooting. Sometimes you'd think I had two left wellies on!

Advice for younger players: listen to your coaches and don't do drugs!

Young Player within your club to look out for: there's a few but I'll give Orlaith Prenter a shout out, she's lethal!

Best GAA sporting memory: Winning the Senior Camogie All Ireland with St Mary's back in 2007. And pulling on the Cargin Camogie jersey for the first time in 2015 and winning a few medals in it for good measure! Hopefully there will be a few good football memories this year!
