Michael Herron Senior RIP

It is with deep regret to inform you that Michael Herron Senior, father of members Kevin , Catriona, Grainne and Fiona and brother of members Jim , Barney and Maura and Grandfather of juveniles Ciaran, Caoimhin, Charlie, Ronan and Niamh sadly passed away this morning.

Michael was one of nature’s true gentleman and a very considerate, courteous and caring person and always jovial and loved life to the full. Michael was a colourful character who proudly showed passion and pride for his family , club and county.

He was a lifelong dedicated Gael, former player, manager and served the club for many years on the committee in many areas of administration. Recently he devoted much time and energy to serving well the South Antrim Executive in many roles as his driving ambition was to ensure that many Gaels in Belfast were provided regular and meaningful games and competitions .

In his many roles as an administrator he always showed commitment, honesty, integrity and objectivity and commanded huge respect from Gaels across the county.

Michael was a fervent supporter of the club and would never miss senior games and always positively cheered the teams on. He would also not be afraid to vociferously challenge the odd referees decision as well and at Committee level he would always articulately speak his mind.

He was also a big Saffron supporter as well and an avid follower of Tyrone as his late father Joe was from Coalisland and former Tyrone player. Michael took great pride and satisfaction in cheering on his children, brothers , his many nephews and nieces representing the club, county and Ulster . Michael was also very popular among South West Gaels because of his affinity and love of the GAA as he worked in many hotel venues in the area.

Michael will be a huge loss to his family, club and GAA community and his legacy will inspire his family and club members to keep passionately promoting gaelic games as he did selfishly and tirelessly .

The broad smiles of “Big Mickey “ presenting trophies to juveniles or when we won the senior football championship in 2017 celebrating with his family will be a poignant, fitting and lasting tribute to his love of his family, club and Gaelic games.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Michael’s family at this very sad time and may Michael rest in peace.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam uasal.
