GAA President Aogán O' Fearghail to launch Glenravel Con Magees History

This Thursday, November 10th sees the culmination of months of hard work and research by a group of Con Magees Glenravel members with the launch of the club’s Centenary book " One hundred years of Gaelic culture in an Antrim glen"

GAA President Aogán O' Fearghail will be guest of honour when the Gaels of Glenravel launch this much anticipated publication covering the history of the club since its inception back in 1916.

All the high points in the club’s history has been covered from their early games in the North Antrim and South West Antrim football leagues to winning the Senior Football Championship title exactly 50 years ago in 1966.

The introduction of hurling to the club in the early 1970s and their string of Junior Championship successes with the caman and sliotar are well documented as is the history of camogie in the parish from its sporadic beginnings to its now firmly established base within the club.

Ladies football also features, from the club winning the championship at their first attempt in 1996 to the great success of this year’s Feile winning girls team.

The successes at Scor in music and dance is also well documented as are other features within the parish during the last century like the Glenravel School of Dancing.

Players who represented the county in all codes down the years, the fields that were used for playing pitches in the parish during that time are well covered, and the path from very humble beginnings to the magnificent complex which is now their base at Fr Maginn Park.

Overall there is something to interest everyone, be they from the parish of Glenravel or from the GAA community in general. Proceedings get underway at 7pm so be sure to get there early
