Davitts Down Saints To Lift Junior B Trophy
Davitts GAC, winners of the Junior B trophy for three years in a row came up against a newly rejuvenated All Saints Ballymena side in this year’s Junior B Championship Final at St Endas at 3pm.
All Saints Ballymena found themselves in a different position this championship season. For a second season in a row have been given a first round bye because Belfast-based O’Donnells withdrew from the competition. Hardly the most ideal preparation.
The game begun with both side testing the target but failing to put the first point on the score board. Davitts struck first with a great solo effort, Ballymena responded with their own before Davitts went ahead with a scoreline of two points to one with 10 minutes gone.
Both sides levelled the scoring twice in a row before Ballymena hit the Clonard based team with the first goal of the game with a brilliantly struck attempt which flew past Davitts Keeper Sean Smyth. The black and white All Saints followed up with another goal with 25 minutes gone, widening the gap to five points.
Davitts Captain and Midfielder Canice Mooney responded to these two goals with two points of his own. Ballymena lead by five at half time.
Davitts took the management team talk on board and came out firing , scoring their first goal of the game, number eight Canice added another two back to back points to the tally. The scoreboard read 1-7 to 2-5 in favour of Ballymena.
Full Forward Thomas Toland struck a goal of his own. Davitts build up a lot of momentum and now led the tie by two points.
Ballymena responded with their own score through Jack Magill however Gary Miskella lashed out and was given a second yellow card, sending his team down to 14 men. It was certainly a hard hill to climb for Ballymena.
Davitts scored two more points while All Saints scored a much needed goal with a audacious strike that beat Sean Smyth.
Final Score : All Saints Ballymena 3-08 , Davitts 2-17
