The Lámh Dhearg CLG clubrooms opened its doors to the Mayor Deirdre Hargey and Antrim County Chairman, Ciarán McCanvana to help launch this year’s Darkness into Light Hannahstown walk to help promote awareness around suicide and self-harm and to raise important funds for a local suicide support charity.

The walk, now an established event in the calendar is in its third year in Hannahstown, jointly organised by Lámh Dhearg CLG and Hannahstown Community Association is planned to take place at 4:15am on the 11th May 2019.

Darkness into Light (DIL) began in 2009 in Phoenix Park Dublin with around 400 people beginning a 5km walk in the dark and finishing as the sun rises walking from, ‘Darkness into Light.’ This event has since become a worldwide movement.

Lámh Dhearg Chairman Peter Kane highlighted that over the last two years almost 2500 people have participated in the Hannahstown walk raising over £69,000 for Pieta House and the locally based Suicide Awareness and Support Group. Alarmingly West Belfast has the highest suicide rates and we are keen and determined to generate change and a better understanding of mental health issues facing our local community.

We are appealing for the local community, schools, sporting organisations and businesses to get behind us this year and to participate in this year’s walk. It is truly uplifting and an event not to forget

Registration is now open and you can go online to sign up and fundraise at https://www.darknessintolight.... or see more details on the Facebook page Darkness into Light Hannahstown.
