Danske Bank MacLarnon Cup Quarter Final replay
St Louis' Ballymena progressed to the semi finals of the Danske Bank MacLarnon Cup after a two point victory over Loreto College Coleraine. The Ballymena boys had snatched a last gasp goal on Wednesday evening's encounter and the two school's met again in the replay in Maghera on Friday afternoon.
Both teams exchanged scores in the opening stages of the game but it was the Ballymena boys who held the upper hand at half time as they led 1-5 to 0-4. St Louis' goal came from a Seaan Elliott penalty in the 18th minute. Elliott was brought down in the area as he raced through on goal and duly stepped up to rifle the resultant spot kick to the bottom left corner of the net. Ten minutes into the second half, St Louis' were leading by seven points and it would appear they had one foot in the semi final thanks to a Conor Kinsella goal six minutes after the re-start. However, credit to Loreto as they had the gap reduced to four points as the game entered the additional six minutes injury time at the end of the second half. Indeed they grabbed two further points in stoppage time and it was a nail biting couple of minutes as St Louis' packed their defence and denied the Coleraine side a match winning goal. Full time score: St Louis GS Ballymena 2-8 Loreto College Coleraine 0-12.
St Louis' now play St Ciaran's Ballygawley in the semi final. Date and venue TBC.
