Oisíns Fun n Fit Programme

This year the club are changing the format of our now annual health and wellbeing initiative. The programme will be kick started each year by a Family Fun Walk – this year the venue is the Glenariff Forest Park and details of this have already been advertised.

A core element six week fitness programme will then follow on from this. This will include the now familiar range of fitness classes and challenges being undertaken by mentor led sponsored teams from across the club and the wider community with a finale event, and a gala event, at the end of this period. Additional elements will include a Family Fun Day with a range of fun health and wellbeing activities for all of the family to enjoy.

There will also be health check opportunities in addition to talks to our children on the dangers of drugs and other appropriate topics during this period. It is the club’s intention to promote health and wellbeing not only within the club but indeed across the whole wider local community.

As the name suggests it is intended to move the focus of thecore element fitness programme away from weight loss and on to having fun and getting fit as part of an overall health and well-being initiative for the whole community (although it will cater for both those wishing, and not wishing, to lose weight). During the registration process intending participants will be given the opportunity to either opt in or opt out of the weight loss elements of the core programme. Similarly there will also be the opportunity for those intending participants over 60 years of age to either opt in or opt out of a dedicated “seniors” team if they so wish. Minimum age for participants is 17 years of age and participants of all abilities and backgrounds will be especially welcome.

It is intended to commence registration for the six week core element fitness programme on 24 April 2016 (immediately after the Family Fun Walk). This will take place in St Patrick’s Primary School in Waterfoot commencing at 5pm.Personal details will be captured and recorded on a confidential one to one basis by a dedicated group of volunteers as part of the registration process. Use of closed group social media apps will hopefully guarantee that “what happens in the team stays in the team”, especially as the teams will be competing against each other.

The club Finance Committee will be arranging sponsorship from local businesses for each core element team. If you are interested in participating in the core element part of the Oisíns Fun n’ Fit programme, have any questions, or would like to volunteer your services as a mentor please e mail the club secretary at secretary.oisins.antrim@gaa.ie or Clare Fyfe at clarefy@hotmail.co.uk. Alternatively you can visit theregistration session at the school on the day if you need any further information before deciding to join in.
