in reply to kevin from Belfast, peter canavan has probably being the best footballer in ireland for the last 2 decades, goouch cooper, ricey mcmenamin, seamus moyhniun to name but a few aren't exactly 6 foot but have excelled under the current rules, suprprising excuse for our lack of success in ulster championship and all-ireland. do you really believe our fortunes would increase with these rule changes? do you really believe that current tackling laws have being antrims downfall for last number of years?

Don't think that is what Kevin was suggesting at all.

being involved in antrim football for last twenty years has given me an insight, like urself i am an avid gael but im prepared to open my eyes and see the reality, and if that isnt enough i know plenty of former players who will gladly back me up,how did the tommy murphy cup winning side enjoy there trip to the states?

There was no trip to the States for winning the Tommy Murphy Cup - that was Croke Park's decision and nothing to do with Antrim. Can you not come up with any fact at all to support your ridiculous assertions?

my comments where not personal simply stating the facts over the last twenty years although i am willing to concede that there is a small wind of change but still way behind severtal other counties and even clubs

And what facts do you base this?

Is our inability to win primary possession, .....

Finally a spark of realism, thank god!

Finally????

I'd have thought that the new rules. if anything, suited Antrim more than most teams, at least in football. We have for generations lacked big, physical players and it is this type of player that seems to me to be most disadvantaged by the rules. Smaller more skilful players could use the rules to their advantage.

That's precisely what our senior footballers said even though they also expressed reservations.

Glad to see the back of the experimental rules can not see the reason why our county backed the proposals. Can you not see what this would do to our clubs and in particular the smaller ones. Bascially every team would need at least 21 players to be able to field at all age groups and grades. I can not see why the clubs in Antrim would back such, I know certanly my own club were not in favour of them and sure many more were the same.???????but anyway as isaid before thank god for the 36%

A presentation on these rules was given by the Chairman of this Task Force to all clubs at a County Committee meeting. Either your club was not present or you are wrong in your assertion that your club was opposed to these rules, because not one person voiced opposition to these. Ceertainly, reservations were expressed and some questions posed but these were all answered to the apparent satisfaction of those present. In fact, the County chairman asked those present if there was anyone vehemently opposed to these motions and not one, yes, not one person responded to this. Your suggestion that this might be detrimental to smaller clubs is quite astonishing. We are certain that there is not one club in this county that fields a senior team on a consistent basis that have only 15 players available. This is just nonsense. What happened with injuries and holidays etc? Perhaps you should read Eugene McGee's column in today's Irish Independent and then you might see what the consequences of this decison might really be.

Games called off already, tremendous stuff. Could the CCC not have foreseen Antrim reaching the Div 4 Final?

Yes, they did. Why do you think there is already a date for these matches to be refixed? Would you have preferred that no fixtures were made on the assumption that we would reach this final???? Yes, you are partly right. Some "people" change and some "people" stay the same, but the CCC certainly aren't "staying the same"!

i was under the impression that this was a plaform for gaels to exercise there opinion not just that of yours or any county offical

It can be, but we have never made any secret of the fact that we will not post personal criticism/attacks or meaningless nonsense.

Great to see the back of those experimental rules. They were brought in to speed th game but if anything slowed it down so much more. Surprised our county secretary said they must have been there for a reason and that's why he supported them but surely previous experimental rules were there for no reason! Remember hurling games starting with puck outs, matches played in quarters and if you recieved a hand pass you couldn't give one! If anything it sounds like Croke parks PR machine trying to attract people into national games by stirring up a bit of controversy. Hard luck the hurlers... come on the footballers!

Obviously you are in the minority 36% then.

i was dissappointed by the performance from antrim yesterday and agree with others that this aint a good offaly team, but hey neither i think is this a good antrim team, ok they were missing a few but these things happen, winning our own ball was a massive problem, still would be critical of the panel there is better out there in places a positive is we have alot of young men who can mature and make good county hurlers however we already have a few of those who could have helped mixed in with the youth too many were ditched. Management spoke about consistency with young teams i agree hence further need to hold on to a few of the older heads like ????, ???? etc. I reckon we are in for a tanking against the dubs i'm reading on sites this match is on june 6 thats a saturday thats what daly said to press yesterday could you confirm that please trying to arrange that weekend for with antrim i don't think we'll get too many more of them for a while. will also be very interested to see progress of our u21's it has been well below par under current management. all the best

This is a myth about "players being ditched". That did not happen, as players (particularly the 2 you mentioned), left the panel of their own accord. As for there being "other players out there" - there may well be, but clearly they don't want to hurl for their county! We have no information re a definte date for the Dublin match.

I thought the display from Antrim yesterday was listless and devoid of any "spark" which was surprising given the magnitude of the game. What was also disappointing was that is a pretty average Offaly team. Another year in Div 2 will do us no harm.

Is our inability to win primary possession, particularly under a hight ball not the main problem? We simply do not seem to have enough players with the ability to do this at this level. There seems to be plenty of experts(this is not diercted at you, by the way) out there who think it is a managerial or board problem or a bad attitude from the players. Missing the 3 players that were not available yesterday who can win this type of ball, was a big loss and we just don't seem to have the talent or resources to replace them.

Any chance of a copy of what clubs are allowed to do on club day, the list might be shorter! You'd think after years of premiums, and they're not small, Willis might make an exception for one day in 125 Years

Try telling them that when someone decides to sue them for being poisoned by a fast-food joint or being damaged by a fire-work for example! You seem to forget that it's our behviour and our approach to such things, that has precipitated such draconian measures.

11. Rock or Pop Concerts
12. Fireworks Displays

Surely a U2 concert or the festivities at the dublin kerry match this year go against these "rules".

Croke Park holds 80,000+ people. That's a bit different from most club grounds!
